Spanning the lower South Island, Westmount South Campus boasts an impressive array of facilities with sites in Timaru, Dunedin and Invercargill. Each of these sites cater for students from Year 3 to Year 13 and includes a combined sixteen classrooms, three Senior learning centres, gymnasium and administration blocks, ensuring the needs of all students and teachers are well catered for. The 2014 roll of 134 students will be drawn from Invercargill, Gore, Dunedin, Oamaru and Timaru, with all students attending their closest site each day.
At South Campus a major emphasis is placed on the individual student
reaching his/her full potential and the methodology of our educational program
is geared to this end. Extension programs for gifted and talented students are
provided, as are IEP’s for the academically challenged. All students are
carefully monitored and extended to reach their optimum potential.
Additional to our desire for maximising student potential, is our commitment to providing a high level of support to our staff. The maximisation of teaching effectiveness through training and professional development is a priority.
The use of cutting edge technology, including extensive use of video conferencing equipment and on-line classes (Moodle) is a feature of Westmount and has been a great success in broadening the subject range for senior students as well as in making best use of our human and material resources nationwide. Opportunities exist for teachers who are interested in taking up the challenge of teaching by video conferencing either full or part time in their area of expertise.
The success of every school largely hinges on the co-operation, communication and cohesion of all its stakeholders and South Campus boasts a large number of voluntary support personnel, in the form of canteen workers, bus drivers, caretakers and teacher aides.
